My personal preference is camping off grid, somewhere by a river or lake ideally. I have a pretty good setup for making camp basically anywhere. Might not be so practical with a bigger group though. Something around lake cowichan might be a good option. Fairly central on the south island, several good camp sites available and close to a variety of good wheeling and adventuring. I've done some exploring around nitinat and out to Carmanah as well, but i've passed countless little side trails and many of them look pretty promising. I bet there are some people on this forum that know the area very well though, and could lead trips easily. What does everybody else think?
I really need to explore this area with somebody who knows it well. I've been up twice and we found some cool stuff alright, but had no idea where we were or what else was around. Great area to explore though. There seems to be tons of fun trails, abandoned mines and other fun things in the woods there. Plus it's so accessible and close, rather than driving out to nitinat or port renfrew
Won't running on the street all the time at low pressure like 20psi cause your tires to wear and give you scrappy mileage? My 33"s get a noticeable bulge in the side if they go down to even 20 psi and my day to day driving is in Victoria, rather than in the woods
I like Victoria Transmission and Auto care. They have experienced mechanics who know how to repair and rebuild rather than just swapping parts like the "technicians" at a dealership. Really a full service shop that can handle basically anything. Also great at communicating with their customers.

Nice photos, sounds like a good trip! What was the way you went (normally gated closed)?
