I just got back from camping in the nahmint lake area and it's pretty slim pickings. The rec site is closed and the river spot can only accommodate about 3 campers.
I bet alberni locals know of some hidden gems, but I couldn't find shit.
If you browse these forums you will find lots of camping recommendations, but your best bet is to purchase a backroads mapbook and just get out and explore.
If you have any questions about certain areas on the island, feel free to shoot me a pm.

Thanks for the reply., but I ended up finding a local guy in Victoria. I'll post his info here if he does a good job.
I sit down with my backroads mapbook some evenings to plan out weekend exploring.
I've found a lot of dead ends, gates, and terrain too hard for my truck, but once in a while I'll find an gem of a camp spot, or photo opportunity.
It's not always easy to find some of these cool locations, but the journey is half the fun.
It's in the backroads mapbook, or you can do a google search for it.
I googled red creek fir and multiple sites with directions popped up.
