I'm new here and new to off-roading. I live in Shawnigan and would love to explore the South Shawnigan/Goldstream Heights area. Would especially love to end up at a lake :-)

Hey Erin, welcome. I could be wrong, but I don’t think there’s much in that area. It’s too densely populated, and the areas that aren’t populated are all shear rock.

For a lake run, try Mays Lake just south of Nanaimo. I’ve only hiked there, but I know there are some 4x4 trails/roads and a nice lake.
I'm pretty sure there's some stuff behind Shawnigan up to Lake Cowichan. Haven't been but I've definitely read about it.
I was around shawnigan last week and couldn't find anything decent. Most of the stuff I was able to find was up in the nanaimo area. :(
I heard there are Some really gnarly buggy trails up there. I don’t know where, but I was talking with a local guy, and he said to takes his tube chassie on 40’s up there. I’m sure there are less hard core trails up there too, although I’ve never actually gone looking.

Theres an area off sooke lake rd in shawnigan where you can explore and play a little. Theres an old sand pit on the left that I was able to get my ranger on 31's and only a shackle lift in about a year ago.
No guarantee that it hasn't been dug up or blocked though. Theres more than just the gravel pit to play in if you explore a bit but most of the side road are gated.
If the gate is open on Kapoor you can do quite a bit of exploring up there, but a lot is gated or dug up
