Hi there. Glad to be a member. I'm new here, from Whitehorse, Yukon and will be on the island to photograph the forests and waterfalls. I've been to Carmanah, Cathedral Grove, and Avatar Grove. I've heard talk of a Mossy Maple Grove, would that be a good destination for photography? Can anyone suggest some other epic locations for photography? Any information would be so helpful. Thanks in advance.

No nature photography trip to Vancouver Island's west coast is complete without including the tallest standing Douglas Fir on the planet, the Red Creek Fir, or "Big Doug" as I call it. To get there you turn off Pacific Marine Drive in Port Renfrew just south of Lizard Lake and follow the Bear Creek Main east past the San Juan River campsite then turn right on to the Red Creek Main and follow it back west 5km.
Great stuff, thanks for that. I'll go visit for sure. Is it difficult finding the mossy maple grove?
It's at the end of lake cowichan west side I believe, do the loop around lake cowichan and its near heathers campsite. Can't miss it when your going around the lake. Mossy trees appear then disappear. If this is the same one...
Thank you very much. I shall drive out that way. Have a nice weekend
What area of carmanawalbran are you heading to? The southern end by the cable car has a very cool waterfall, Emerald pools, and some massive old growth.
That area sounds cool. Are there specific roads to take to get there? I'm assuming I do not drive the main road in? Thanks for the tip
Have you picked up a backroads mapbook yet? Or the app? Both are great to have, and will have tons of cool places all over the island. With the app you get all of BC to!
There's 2 options to get there and I have the GPX files for both but can't obtain them on mobile.
One route is in from nitnat area, one from Cowichan via Gordon River main.
The route in my picture is Gordon River main.
