Servus from Germany!

hello, my name is thomas.

I 'm from Brandenburg , which is in berlin in Germany.
I drive past few years offroad through Europe and the Eastern Bloc ( romania and co.).
This year I want to go to canada , where I want to go a round trip by british columbia.
also planned to vancouver Iceland a few days.
from Germany little possibilities are known to me in Canada to go offroad.

Therefore, I signed up with you to learn more from you.
We are a residential pickup with cabine offer ( camper ).

maybe you can give what you can do with the drive and not give me some tips.

which legal bases exist , and so on.

attached a few pictures of my travel through Europe with my pajero v20.

P. S. my english is terrible, forgive me that please ; )

welcome to the site.... so are you planning on ferrying the pajero and camper here via a shipping container? then cross country it from there? would be interesting to see the process that would take.

honestly I think you would have more fun buying something to beat while your here for <$2000 cnd but its up to you.

on the mainland in BC there are a few dedicated parks http://www.4wdabc.ca/ they hold some runs in those areas and others. on the island here the most active place I have seen for organizing runs has been the boys on here from Naninamo and some other clubs I'm not part of.. lol would be cool to really get out this summer!

Hey Thomas Welcome to the site, don't worry about your English we don't judge. If and when you come to Vancouver Island try and post up here when you're going to be here and I would be happy to show you some local trails / lakes/ camping.

thank you for the nice shot! we have a rented pickup because that ship with maritime containers but is very expensive. I always get free tour with a guide and does not come into question. the date is around the 03 July, then we get the two pickups by the landlord and then it goes to Vancouver Iceland. are planned for three days, then we want to northern BC. we do not have to go before hard trails, as my mother and father are nominal. but scenic routes away from the asphalt are planned in any case. you can go offroad in canada free or are there bans? hiking and beautiful beds are definitely great !!! Thanks for the offer! I will come back on it;)

A lot of the area is privately owned because of shady government dealings which means a lot of gates, we typically don't go around gates into private land **snickers** but there is still ALOT to see that they haven't locked up behind gates......yet.

well I 'm curious in any case !

I might suggest an easy drive to Lake Cowichan for some swimming, and then onwards towards Nitnat lake for some camping. Lots of rivers/lakes/mountains to check out along the way. Post again closer to your trip and I'm sure someone here would be happy to point you in the right direction and/or show you around.

Welcome to the site. Nice truck!

That map is correct. The road is totally open public access and there are no gates or costs necessary to drive on it. Around mid-way past Cowichan lake (at Youbou) the road will turn to gravel and remains that way until Nitnat. The only thing to watch out for is logging trucks - always give them the right of way.

There are a few marked public camping spots on both lakes, or if you prefer isolation you can basically just take any of the small service roads leaving the main route and explore until you find something cool. Many of them lead to rivers or mountain sides that make for good camping!

If you're going to take this route - you should also check out Mt Prevost. It's on the way, and probably only a half an hour detour or so with a short hike. Check out my post at http://www.vioffroad.com/forum/routes-destinations/mount-prevost

thanks for the tip !!!! so that is very helpful ! the route to Mount Prevost I have already seen ; ) I once even a question, is the west coast trail passable ? I see in the map there a campsite , because it would be nice if you could go about this with the car.

The west coast trail is passable, but it's a really long hike (a week or more), and there are very few entry points. If you want to check out a small part of it, I once did a short trip from Pachena campground near Bamfield. We hiked to the Pachena point lighthouse and back, and it was a good easy day. See map here.

Apparently you can also get on the trail somewhere around Nitnat if you take a water taxi, but I don't have any personal experience with that so you would have to ask around to find out more.

thank you for the many helpful tips really !

I have now planned a route , unfortunately, is still a locked track between.

http://goo.gl/maps/cND9Y

I have to ask you something you think is possible to drive this distance that?

then we want with the ferry from Nanaimo direction whistler then further route prince george, jasper banff and the tourist tour to go (my parents have the desired).

That's quite the trip! I'm not sure if you're going to be able to get to Sherk lake from that direction though. Maybe someone else can correct me, but I don't think there is access to the Chemainus valley from up north without bypassing gates. The only public access to Sherk that I know of is through the gates in Chemainus, and that's only open on weekends (and you have to sign in/out).

How long are you planning to spend on this route? The map says 12 hours, but keep in mind these are almost all logging roads so depending on the road conditions you'll be going pretty slow. I would plan to spread this out over 2 days if you want any leisure time. Either that, or cut out the Sherk detour and take Nanaimo River rd right into Nanaimo.

Also, if you're going right in to Cowichan lake and plan to backtrack, you might as well just drive right around the lake - saves you having to drive the same road twice and won't add any time.

Once you're on the mainland, whistler is awesome and so is squamish which is on the way. You can't go wrong with pg to jasper and banff - lots of awesome scenery on that route!

We should definitely plan a little micro-meet in the Cowichan area when you're in town. Sounds like you're in for a good trip :)

I would be up for that, I could show you some spots around the Nanaimo area ( or at least point you in a good direction for a day trip) and then maybe next day I could take you to the Cowichan area to meet up with Shane and make a day trip out of it in that area.
