just wanted to see what people know about heading out in the snow for a trip on the island. my kid wanted to go camping in the snow this winter so i planned on taking him up in about 3 weeks but have not done any good snow wheeling trips before. i know people dont like to give up there spots just to find everyone there the next time they come so i got a few ideas where we want to get to around the arrowsmith area (not sure if we will with the snow tho) anyone know how that area is with gates(south island is getting locked up hard) and how much snow is up there? both trucks coming are on 37's and we both have a winch. just orderd some vbar chains today to so should be able to take on some good snow if need be.
Thanks for any tips, tricks or info
Dave
I might join in depending on when you
heading out.
Been snow wheeling already a few times.
Good amount of snow in some places.
I'm on 31s but all locked up with a winch
where have you headed up so far jas for snow wheeling? the spot i had picked out are 1000m up so if the gates are not locked should be 4+ feet of snow, thats if we can get up there in that snow. both of us picked up chains for all 4 tires so just might be able to lol
37s and chains!
I don't think I could keep up with that haha.
I've been near and around holyoak lake.
There was maybe 2ft of snow at worse. Had no troubles at all. But at 4ft I don't know haha.
Holyoak looks like a cool lake. thought it would have more snow then 2 feet up there tho. did you make it right up to the top of the lake? was looking at sherk lake too maybe save a little time on the highway. kinda thought it would be cool to go by arrowsmith but dont know how the gates are and if that area is open
I'm sure it's a lot more snow there now. This was about a month ago if not more. It started snowing as we came near the lake. It was coming down hard.
3-4ft is probably to be expected in some places now.
Yes we made it to the lake np. Did 2wd most of the way then it got deep. But all good.
What way did you take in there?
Went through chemainus gate.
There's few other ways as well. You can get to it through ladysmith but I don't know how
on macmillon? or up hill 60 and chemainus park? gate open or trail around?
yes
