New guy, with his son (updated)

Hi, this is my second post here on vioffroad. Like I said, my Frontier is stock other than the duct tape on the bump stops. I need some advice for what upgrades I should get first before I go out. Any ideas?

One of the best upgrades you can do is a winch, even just a cheap one will get you out of trouble so you dont have to call for help. Quite useful for a longish wheelbase and especially if you have open diffs

I can't find a good mount online for a winch other than this $1500 Shrockworks bumper that I was saving for much later.
I am REALLY bad at fabrication, so I can't make my own

Get the basics and start exploring. You can have a lot of fun just with some good tires, and get yourself out of a lot of trouble with a saw, a shovel, some basic tools, a first aid kit, recovery points, straps and a high lift.

I'm getting a 2.5 in lift and Toyo Open Country ATII from 4 wheel parts in Langley, outside of the island.
I'm sure that my garden tools should work if I get stuck

Be smart and you won't be getting stuck.

I still stand by what I said. Be smart and don't do what others tell you to or you'll end up like this. All in all it was still a fun night in ice cold rain and ankle deep mud shoveling for 2 hours.
@BC-Dirtymax at least I didnt loose my shoes that night.

I went out on my own plenty of times. If you question yourself if you can make it or not simply move on. Not worth it. Been stuck on my own a few times. Luckily have a winch to get me out and an ok friend.

Will do! Thought I saw you at Kissinger few weeks back. Not sure if it was you. Didn't remember you being so tall. Like 7 feet lol.

To stay on topic.
I highly suggest going out with a group of people to get an idea and a feel of what your truck is capable of. Once you get to know it well and get some recovery gear you'll be fine and chances of you getting stuck are slim.
Your biggest fear should be getting stuck behind gates. Eg. Being open on your way in and coming back to see it closed.
Have a map book or some sort of gps device handy.

Have fun out there.

If you have a hitch, you can always install a Costco champion winch on the back. I have a champion on the front of my JK and seems to pull like a S.O.B.. It's 2 over 2 years old a really works well.

Hmm. I do have a hitch but I can't find a champion at my local costco

You could also go online and check "Princess auto" they typically have some good deals on winches and accessories.
Hope this helps.
