Anyone out there have an Aussie Locker, been looking at getting one for my 4 Runner. I heard Radd Cruisers in Duncan is able to bring them in and they are reasonably priced. Thanks
I run them front and back. They are typical for noise from a lunchbox style ratcheting locker.....if its a daily driver be prepared for some noise in parking lots.
I ordered mine right from the company (Torq-master Industries) out of New York....$30 or 50 to ship USPS https://www.aussielocker.com/
I ran a rear Aussie in my old 4runner for a few years and loved it. They work great and mine didn't make any noise on the road.
I recently installed a front Aussie in my 3rd gen 4runner (rear elocked) and am not sure I like it as much. There's no doubt that it makes the truck significantly more capable, but it kinda sucks to drive as it's pretty much a spool 100% of the time you're in 4wd. I used to drive in 4lo pretty much all the time but I just blew a steering pump from the constant strain, so now I'm trying to use 2wd when cruising the logging roads - just wish I had the lower gearing.
Overall the rear Aussie is a great buy - maybe the best single improvement I've made to my 4runner. The front is a good buy if you're still getting stuck lots with suspension and rear locker, but maybe not so good if it's a daily. IMO the best solution would be a select able front locker - but then you're looking at big $$.
I got one in my rear end. Going strong almost 10 years now.... not as much wheeling these last few. Like Fatty I also bought mine direct. Good experience all around.
i run a lock right in the front of mine and I can tell the steering pump doesn't like it, but it doesnt like the 33s either. i don't mind the front locker for steering it makes no real difference i find.(guess that's as long as the pump holds) locking hubs go along way to giving you the ability to unlock the locker from the axles for on road steering. i also plan on putting a 2low detent kit in my TC to disconnect the front ds in low range eventually.
the ability to just crawl up something you would normally have to bump is just awesome!
