I'm not sure I can join for camping, but if it's not too far away I could probably join for a trail day. Any idea where you'll go?
My camping gear never leaves my jeep so I'm down!
Not sure what is happening in my books yet but it does sound fun!
That’s wicked! I feel a bit jealous! Lol
So im looking into Elsie lake for a destination. North of Port Alberni, it looks amazing, great drive and a fishing hotspot too apparently
Here a photo of the route I was thinking
I’m down to join for the trails. Maybe even stay for a night of camping. What dates were you going up and coming home?
probably just a one nighter aswell, unless I really don't wanna leave haha, was thinking about goin up the 17th come back 18th
Sweet. I think I can do that. Just have to clear it with my wife, but I don’t think we had any plans. And she’d probably welcome some time alone these days 😆
Any idea what the trails are like? Pretty technical, or just logging roads?
just your typical logging roads through some nice scenery(lots of little lakes and rivers on the way), don't think there will be anything technical unless we go on one of the offshoots, but personally I would just be happy to get a sweet camp spot and a nice fire goin with a cold beer :)
Sounds good. If I have my dirt bike put back together by then I’ll bring it along for some fun.
Hey I'd definitely be in to this. There was snow on this route last time I was up there but probably melted by now. Some really nice views along the way and a nice big beach on grand central that you can drive down onto. likely pretty busy on a long weekend so the good spots will go quick but there's tons of bush out there so should be plenty of fall back spots if the lakes are taken!
I drove up Mt Washington today and there was a bit of snow, but not until you got about half way up. So anything closer to sea level should be melted by now. This sounds amazing. Beach camping? It's like an episode of 4WD Action hahah
Holy crap! That does sound awesome!
Tacoma is INterested! What dates is everyone thinking? I have friends coming from Alberti on 17th hopefully can time correctly/ meet up
We’re going 17-18, which is the Sunday night of that weekend. I’m assuming we’ll go up early-ish on the Sunday, so we can do some exploring, fishing, whatever, and find a good camp spot. Then maybe do a bit more wheeling on Monday before heading home? But it’s really Nick’s plan, I’m just tagging along :)
Hope you can join!
How’d the scouting trip go today Nick?
Yeah scouting was pretty incredible, just wish I started earlier so I coulda went further. Tons of lakes, tons of turn offs to explore, lots of great views. Looks very promising
Count me in for Sun to Mon overnighter !
Pumped for this weekend! Any idea what time everyone will be heading up on Sunday? Would be nice to meet up on the highway and caravan.
Good plan! I am not sure how long a drive it is yet. But probably leave Sunday morning maybe 8:30 leave the Shell again and meet up with you and then head up the rest of the way! Make a nice day of it!
Oh right, I just realized it’s North of Parksville. So maybe leaving Vic earlier would be better. Just to have that extra time to bomb around the dirt roads up there!
Yeah, earlier the better I think. Let’s get up there so we have time to do some exploring and find a good camp spot (hopefully on the beach)!
Agreed! What time are you comfortable leaving Duncan? I could easily be leaving Victoria by 7 then be where your at around 7:45. That would definitely give us more time to explore around. I suppose 630 isn’t out of the question either now that I think about it!
What’s your thoughts on this? Anyone who is leaving Victoria with me then feel free to chime in!
I’m good for any time! 7 is probably early enough though :) we’ll cruise into Parksville around 9 and have lots of time to see the sights before finding a camp spot. How does that work for everyone?
Ok I will leave the Shell near Goldstream at 7 am! The plan is in motion!
I’ve driven those roads before very cool! However the mosaic forest site says ash main is closed To Elsie lake and comox gate is closed as well the other access! There are few small lakes around there Before Elsie lake and after central lake? I’ got lost up there and found great view point of great central lake which is why I new I messed up!!! Lol no gps just dum ass go forward don’t forget to look back once in while some roads can twist ya lol! There is a small site on one of the small Lakes just
After bridge maybe busy though ?
Right on ! Thanks for the heads up! Looks like the ole BRMBook will come into play as well as anymore good info that gets leaked. It’ll be fun though! We will end up camping somewhere in the area and still get to see lots of nice countryside/roads!
Haha I got locked out of gate because I dillydallied my way up there. And the gate was locked and there is two guys and a TV the passenger was drunk. He came out and said the asshole just lock the gate! I went up story of my life. So I went wandering around and I found Lowery Lake! at the end of our lake is all cut off now and of course I meet up with these two ATV again!! At this point I chated with sober driver as I watched his friend roll big rock down hill and him after it! Lmao !! He gets up!! Im ok lol !!! I think he was funny as hell!! His buddy going what the heck going swimming for lol! Didn’t see him roll head over heals lol!! and left them and found great place alone stamp river I think lol !! No idea but I got there !!i just got home!!
Lol Sounds like quite an adventure! Looks like it was still fun for you anyways.
It ended up being iruninca and myself out there on Sunday and Monday! Great time though. We saw some awesome back country and basically drove all around Elsie lake ( well to the two bridges out anyways. It made a complete circle impossible to our knowledge at the time. Ha!)
Followed the Ash river road to Oshinow lake and beyond into the park a ways. Hit up logging roads all over the place up to dead ends and some loops happened. Hahaha. Good times!
I'm thinking of going to ash lake or elsie lake on monday for some camping. Does anyone know if I'm allowed up there during the week? The mosaic site says ash main is only open 8-8 on weekends but it was open on tuesday during the day when I drove by.
Any input would be appreciated, or if anyone has any other recommendations for can6p spots in that area.
I already know about scout beach and lowry lake.
Thanks
Reality is they don’t want trucks and people mixing so weekend only entry on website as suggested! They closed the gate at 5 pm last time I was there and Had found another site outside that area. Many roads aren’t accessible but a lot are! Take your time easier to leave area when trucking than coming in! Just saying 😀! Don’t get in their way and move over let them pass! 😀 easier on weekends just have to run into crazy drivers 🤪!! I didn’t do it😂
