Hello I just joined the group & looking for advice on potential purchase of a used mid 2000sTacoma with over 200 000 km. Just wondering if I should shrug off the high mileage & just go for it. It seems like locally people are asking around $14 to $15k for them. Thanks.
Really great truck, but hard to find, and you'd be silly to pay that kind of money for a 15 -20 year old truck.

Yes a poor mans Tacoma. The fx4 rangers are a pretty good bang for their buck, in terms of stock off road options

I'd avoid them. I owned a 2006 SR5 4.0L auto 4wd. I paid $16,500 for it in 2009 with 156km. Sold it in 2015 with 260km. Many, many issues along the way. In the end I was tired of throwing money at a truck with a rotting frame. It was a pain to wrench on (rust), and never really drove great (steering & driveline vibrations).
Replaced it with a 2010 Frontier Pro-4x 4.0L 6spd 4wd, Much happier with it.
Thanks, Ryno. I am taking 2005 limited 4runner for pre purchase inspection on Monday. I hope I don't find too much rust underneath. It turns out suv suits my purposes better. My wife & teenage daughters prefer multi passenger & folding down seats. Daddy doesn't get to buy a pickup. Lol.
