Hey guys I just came across this forum looking for an off roading community on the island and it looks like I've found the right place. I bought my first vehicle a few months ago and was thinking at the time I wouldn't find much off roading here for some reason. So I settled for 2wd. Now I'm looking to get a 4x4 ranger the next good one I see. Not looking to get into anything too serious, I say that now at least. In the mean time though I'd like to find some 2wd stock friendly places. So far I found something off of sooke lake road but the most of the trails that looked interesting were beyond my trucks capability or too skinny because I don't want to scratch my truck, and what I could do I just found gates. Still managed to have some fun though. So what else is there? Jordan river maybe? I'm not expecting there to be much with the truck I've got. I've been looking at other posts as well but wanted to introduce myself and hear what suggestions you guys had directly.

Hey welcome to the forum Lukas! Definitely a great place to be, lots of good people here with some good info, take a look around the forums youll find plenty of options and trail ideas :) If youve got good tired on youll be able to get to some good spots with 2WD , the snow will be a serious show stopper though. I recommend getting a backroads mapbook if you dont already have one, also areas around mt prevost, hill 60, cowichan area, shawnigan area, lots of big open main roads back there than you can get around with 2WD :)

Nice truck. I have a 2011 fx4 off road ranger. It's pretty impossible not to scratch your truck up, I almost want to cry when I see my truck in sunlight thrse days lol

thanks man you too. I'm jealous of yours being an fx4. lol thats sad about the scratches. Mine has definitely got some scratches from the previous owner but not from bush. It's not bad. Black really doesn't help hahah. I went out yesterday to shawnigan again and decided to go the way that i thought was too thin last time. It wasnt bad I was able to avoid most of it. Had a lot of fun thats for sure, it wasnt a long trail or too challenging though. I'd like to know some other places around shawnigan, havent been able to find specific places on the forum and didnt have more time to look for more yesterday. Here are some pictures. Cant attach them cause the files are too big.

I had a 2007 ranger sport before I bought my fx4. it was auto and a nice easy truck to drive. My fx4 with 410 gears and a manual is way slower off the line than most vehicles on the road and its way worse on gas than my sport.

I live in cobble hill so if you ever want to cruise some logging roads I'm down. I would suggest getting some all terrain tires, they will make a huge difference and you should also check your axle code on your door to see if you have a limited slip,

Yeah I've already checked the codes. My truck is a 3.0 manual with 4.10's and a limited slip diff. Its definitely slow off the line. I'd be down to cruise too I'll pm you the next time I'm thinking of going. Or let me know when you are. I've got my eye on a 4x4 manual 4.0 ranger sport right now so i'm holding off on tires for my current truck. Because that 4x4 is already on 33's and lifted. Still not sure if I'll be getting it or not.
Does your fx4 have the 4.0l?
