** UPDATED **
To include a Saturday run date. Sunday is almost full now with a few close friends and a couple tentative invites.
I'm going to be doing a run up old Mt. Sicker road trail this Saturday and Sunday with Ben to show him another trail in and out if the gate is closed.
There's room for a couple more capable stock or lightly modified rigs to join us and explore/wheel around somewhere you may not already be familiar with. If you already know your way round the mountain and you just want to come out for some fun that's cool too but we really don't want a large group to manage and we won't be catering to dedicated trail rigs or doing any extreme wheeling because we're both running lightly modified daily's. There are still plenty of opportunities for fun and hairy moments along the way if you're so inclined, just keep in mind our own recovery gear and equipment is limited at this point. If you have your own, great!
I would really like to specifically extend an invitation to the newer members or anyone else who is new to the area or isn't already acquainted with the trails there. I have lived here off and on for decades and I'm still discovering new things all the time in places I thought I'd already seen before thanks to going on local runs. If you're not familiar with the area and not too keen about exploring on your own then you are welcome to come along with some other moderately equipped vehicles and get your tires dirty with us. If the weather makes the top of the mountain to icy/snowy to safely travel then there are still plenty of places at lower elevations to go down on the Hillcrest side. It's a nice area to run due to it's central location and easy accessibility for most south islanders but if we get too many people showing up on this one it's going to turn in to a dirt caterpillar so preference will be given to those who are not already seasoned Sickers until we are up to a maximum of 5 rigs. :-P
If you are interested in going on this run, just post in this thread.
We will be meeting near Duncan around 10:15am for social and prep, then heading out around 10:30am for the trails.
If nobody else is on board by Friday I will just announce the exact meeting time and place here for whomever decides to show up on a whim.
In the meantime I will PM the meet-up details to anyone interested until we're maxed out so we don't end up with a flash mob scenario.
If you have any FM 2-way radio such as an FRS/GMRS or a VHF/UHF please bring it as we will be coordinating via radio on the trail.
Cheers & happy trails!
-Rob
Thanks Rob for setting this up and encouraging new members to come along! Thats exactly what this forum is all about :) Unfortunately I wont be able to make it, but im sure it will be a blast :)
If more people are interested in Saturday than Sunday, I may be able to persuade Stacey to go along with our "day together plan" being a wheeling trip up there instead since she will be busy Sunday and not able to ride with me. I can go back out with Ben on Sunday so long as nothing breaks. ;-)
haha well that could be good as long as shes good with it too! Couple time is important haha. Went to top of prevost ( or close to it) a month ago and it was pretty gnarly, hard hard ice and snow, real sketchy. You planning on going up as high ?
The latest reports indicated it's mostly clear up there with patchy snow above 500m and in some shady open spots.
The trail should be OK as it's mostly covered and below 450m. Some things may just not be on the menu depending on what we see when get up there. A lot depends on how the weather goes the next couple days and how it looks when we get there since things can change rapidly either way.
I'm new to the board and interested in getting in on a trail run.
I've been up Mt Prevost a number of times but I mostly keep it pretty tame as I usually bring up my little kids. Last weekend I was up there and had some fun in about 5" of snow. There wasn't any ice at that time.
A year ago some time around Christmas Stacey and I went up at night on our way back from her Dad's place and it was all clear for a while, then I rounded a dark corner on the north side and suddenly there was 6" of snow on the road with multiple tracks going through it so we kept going for a bit but it quickly turned in to a foot of snow with one older set of tracks through it, and then it became a struggle just to make progress since the track was frozen ice and the snow was mostly refrozen styro-cobble that resisted all attempts at keeping momentum and control through. So, we turned around and got back out before we stranded ourselves at the worst imaginable time. That was after the new suspension went in but before the spacer lift and beefier all terrain tires so I wasn't about to push my luck.
Count me in
I'll be on sicker as well on sunday with a friend, exploring all over and seeing what we can find. Hopefully we bump into you guys at some point!
I will be up there some were but i am up there most weekends
I can try to call you on the radio when we get through to the mines side. Is it LAD 2?
Would love to go but Superbowl....enough said
Yeah but that's why it's gonna be the best day to go. LOL! ;-)
Lol that's why Saturday!
** UPDATE: Sunday run is now FULL **
Enough people are already committed for Sunday now, as we have 5 for sure going and a maybe 6th.
Saturday has a couple more spots open for any new people or anyone not familiar with the area.
I think we have 3 for sure going on that day and another maybe. 5 is ideal, 6 is manageable.
I'm still interested in going. I assume that if I'd like to go, it will have to be as part of the Saturday crew. Are the meetup times and locations the same?
Actually, I cannot make the Saturday run. I'll keep my eyes on the forum to get in to the next trail run. Have fun!

Are you going up Plantation RD or old Sicker RD ...........Old Sicker going to be a mud hole just before you cross over to mine sites going to be deep water
No fun going up Plantation, might as well go in the Civic if you're gonna do that.
Hopefully the puddles aren't too deep.
LOL there is a road off plantation that take you over the real top down to the mine sites 4x4 only
Big thanks goes out to Rob stacy and lance plus brent( sorry if wrong name) for the guided tour of mount sicker and the history of the mining town that once exested in that area. Very cool!
any pics from the day?
Same area as black and white ?
They wont load and video that wont load either
Everyone else get back alive?
Rich, Jess, nice to meet both of you today and congrats on owning the hell out of the trails on your first post-lift run.
Lance, good seeing you again and thanks for picking up my slack. I apologize that we had to cut out a bit early.
I had hoped to get at least one more trail in but when Stacy says she's done I know that means she's done.
She can usually take about 2-4hrs worth of actual offroading before the motion sickness starts to kick in but once it does it's just not fun for her anymore so we're working on building up her tolerance and whatever else might help. She feels bad because she really enjoys it but just doesn't have the stamina for all day wheeling trips yet. Perhaps when we get her in her own rig, being in control may help her overcome it.
I didn't seem to break anything today so it looks like I'll be back out again tomorrow, solo this time but with a larger group so it might get interesting. I think we're going to poke around a bit more on the top side before finishing the day off with F'd My Mirror or maybe the River Trail and up to the Hill60 side. Who knows...
Ripper up !
I only took one actual photo. Was too busy driving most of the time. Got a couple quick vids as well.
That was a cool mine
were thinking of joining you tomorrow as well. Jess is wanting a turn at the wheel...gulp...
I should be up there wife will be with me also.................................. lad 2
I'm meeting some friends behind the chevron Sunday at 10, seems like this'll be a good trip. See you guys out there
I'm off to bed now.
To everyone who is coming, see you in the morning at Mt Sicker Chevron at 10:15am for round 2...
Hey how did the day go?
Good! But we did have some casualties
Oh, nothing too bad? Any pics?
Check out the facebook page 4wdabc i think its called pics there
I don't have Facebook...lol
Whaaaaat!
Oh nice! Might have to go out next weekend!
And looks like fun!
We had an awesome run today. Got to go out with some friends who know the area quite well, so we covered a lot of ground. What an excellent area, so accessible and close enough to home. Got a quick meet with Rob, Rich and Jess out there though we weren't hitting trails together. Nice to put a face to the name
Nice too hear, wish I coulda went again but Superbowl was on, now that NFL is done I'll be going out a lot more!
looks like the weekend had some pretty good turn outs :) wish I could have been there!
Wow what a crazy day!
We had a larger than expected turn out and lots of action on the trails today.
There was a dozen trucks at the meet but a few split off and went on their own but I can't say I blame them. Despite the larger group of varying capability, we managed to get everyone through relatively unscathed and then everyone got the chance to challenge themselves on the trails and obstacles they were comfortable doing on the mines side, while others had the option to take easier routes and still have a lot of fun together.
I'd like to thank everyone for coming out today and making it a great and memorable run. I'm definitely looking forward to going out for an overnight group run later where we can camp out and make a real weekend out of it.
I'm just glad I only fucked 1/3 fasteners on one mirror doing Fucked My Mirror with my mirrors on this time. I think out of everyone who damaged something today I got off the easiest since that's an easy and free DIY fix for me. Already did the passenger side once after an incident last year up Sicker when reversing out of a wrong turn. A branch clipped the passenger mirror and took it right off while I was looking over my shoulder on the driver side. Bugger!
I'll say this, Westshore Spring & 4X4 is sure getting swamped with all the business we're doing with them lately. ;-)
Cheers!

On top of the Tyee today. Cameras always seem to suck at catching rainbows but if you look carefully you can see there is one.
Seems i have caught the plague so i just sat around and bitch at wife she likes that LOL .......Will be back up hill on the week end ....................
So it seems that I blew a rear axle seal. My guess so far is my rear diff breather tube got detached, plugged up the breather, then I drove home and the highway driving got the gear oil all hot and the pressure built up, blew the seal. Gotta pick up some parts and see about fixing it before it gets too dark
Oh damn!
Nope, blew up the bearing instead, that's what made the seal go! Work in progress
One more thing to add to the list of carnage that day... ;-)
