Hey all.
New to the forum, though been lurking a while. With summer upon us and the usual suspects in the Cowichan Valley closed due to fire hazards, is anything open to public access? Went to Prevost today and the gate is closed, so I assume every other gate that is usually open will also be a no-go. The quarry access has once again been dug up too. Probably has been for a while, I just went by yesterday and noticed. Bugger.
Any ideas for a guy in the Shawnigan area?
Cheers,
Ryan.
Went and did some exploring. Anyone wth local knowledge know about Karpoor? I got about 4km down the road and came across some "private property" signs. Didn't know if they pertained to the adjacent cutblock... or everything along the road from that point forward. Played it safe and turned around.
So is the whole Karpoor main line open, or is it private at the start of the signs? Signs started where the road goes under the tall power lines, as you can see on the map here.
Thanks.
You can explore pretty far on kapoor main. It joins up to lots of territory and as long as there are no locked gates you are free to explore
Plane crash at my bouldac still open?
Also hill 60 still open?
Maybe but most likely closed ...........................And never seen hill 60 closed most likely open radios in 2 weeks
If my memory serves me right, bouldac is always open from the Renfrew side.
Awesome thanks for the info, I still need to find me a good radio!
Get a handheld VHF off amazon.
Curious, but what's everyone using radios for? Forgive my ignorance lol. I used to be an avid wheeler many moon ago and never bothered, they were more of a luxury or for the expedition type rigs.
You all using them to listen in on logging chatter, to you guys have a dedicated freq you use?
There is a dedicated ch. we use them to communicate between rigs all day long. used to use CBs, but they kinda suck in comparison. The VHF can also be used in emergencies.
Are handhelds as good or better than mobile?
Well a mobile has more out put 50 to 75 watts compared to a hand held at 5 watts so in simplex mode that is just radio to radio a mobile will have more range ....But for what most guys use them for when wheeling hand held's work fine
Can you recommend a mobile from Amazon? If I'm spending the money I'd rather a mobile...
you want good or cheap
Middle? Don't want something that will break first few bumps but don't want to be paying 500 bucks for one
this is what i use in my car bought from these guys http://www.409shop.com/409shop_product.php?id=123862
Weeeeee!!!!
Pretty tame stuff, but my boy loved it haha.
i dont think it being tame matters, having fun is what matters!
I was just out and found a trail that runs between Hill 60 and Mt Prevost, wondering if anyone on this thread had done that run? Pretty narrow and also wondering if the trail was just for quads? My Blazer was doing well but we ran out of time and had to turn back, any info on that area would be appreciated. I'm guessing once we reach Prevost that we will run into a gate on that side so probably have to backtrack out of there.
There are a couple connectors between hill 60 and chemainus river valley, which extend to the forestry pools and then prevost/sicker. There are exits at the forestry pools which brings you out hillcrest rd, though the access to prevost I believe is gated off now.
Thanks, I just got my rig built at Westshore Spring And 4X4 and just learning the rig again and super happy with it so far. Hoping to head up that way again next Sunday for some fun. Went up Hill 60 and it was so dry, but the trails down in the valley seemed good so I'll be sticking to the lower trails for the rest of the summer. If anyone wants to come out exploring, I'd like to meet some more people in the wheeling community and look forward to spending more time out that way.
Might go out hill 60 on Sunday or go out to Mount Bolduc
Let me know if anyone wants to meet up, I'm planning on going from Hill 60 to Mt Prevost Sunday morning. I've never gone all the way but there are lots of fun spots on the route we found haha.
Lauchlin if you go out to mount bouldac let me know that's on my list, also just ordered that radio thank you!
