So I won a turkey through the fish and game club, I gotta go pick it up today and since there's a trail right there I thought I would go test my luck with the beat up rim.
**Short notice I know**
I won't be going out long...maybe 1.5 - 2 hours, just going to do a quick rip through to extension then circle back. If anyone wants to join me I'll stop at University Village Starbucks (Harewood Mall) at 11:30 a.m. this morning. It's going to be pretty tame so all are welcome.
***Update***
Somethings come up and I'm about an hour behind schedule, I will now stop at Harewood mall to see if anyone wants to hit the trail at 12:30 NOT!! 11:30.
Sorry if this screws anyone up.
Went for a quick rip up around the Lantzville heights and behind to test out the locker I installed last week and was very impressed with its performance. Great view from up top despite the rain and cloud. Would've taken pictures but the camera on my phone was givin me grief.
Ya honestly besides tires, the locker is the best bang for the buck when it comes to mods.
A few pics from my last outing.
Looks like fun.....gotta show me this when I am back up and running
looks like a blast. what are the setups?
Rubicon is sitting on a small lift on 35's, I'm on 4.5 lift with 32s and the other red jeep is sitting on 35s with about 6" lift, and yes fatty anytime man, these pics were taken in the new trails I was telling you about.

Here's a bit of video from today
Im determined to make it up there befor th einsurance in the heep is up if not then next tim were playing in your neck of the woods!
Some footage from the weekend, I take no credit for the video, it was recorded by another Jeep I was with. It was a pretty gnarly day with broken hubs, broken lockers, broken winches, missing fenders....all in all a really good day.

Wow what a day yesterday, couple pics of my adventure.
What a day indeed! Awesome pics.
Trying for a flex shot that got out of hand?? Good thing you didn't bust that new window, that would have been a kick in the nuts.
Ya the stump got the better of me, funny you mentioned that because as I started going over I was thinking "Fuck I just replaced that window".
A bunch of pics of gnarly hill climbs and then one of a perfectly level spot with a single stump, and your truck on it's side. Haha. Any damage?
Damage was pretty minimal actually didn't even break any glass. I will however have to hammer my roof line a little where my roof rack pressed it down and replace the p/side door, No big deal though.
Awesome shots. Glad the damage was minimal.
Great photos!
So a friend of mine put together a cool little video with footage from the day I flopped the jeep. Hey Shane is it possible to embed video into forum posts? Nobody ever wants to click the link.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wk-jEd2XuFc
Great video!
Nice one Larry - here's the embedded version:
Well Jeeps been sitting on blocks for a few weeks now, managed to get the rear springs installed (going up 2"), comp cut the rear quarter fenders and installed the HnT slip yoke eliminator. Also got the lexan installed into the rear Quarters...woohoo no more popping windows. The new Tom Woods driveshaft was about 4" too long so it's gong to the driveline shop to have it shortened. Hopefully get the front end put back together this week and ready to hit the trails again this weekend.
So, Eli over at Lokilights put on another mountain cleanup this Sunday, we spent a couple hours dragging out garbage from one of our local lakes (Barsby Lake) We ended up filling a dump truck and also filled a horse trailer with other peoples trash and took it off the mountain, afterwards we went and did some wheelin. At the end of the run I ended up smashing an axle shaft, the ears bound up and pushed my lower ball joint out of the "C". After getting the Lower ball joint hammered back in and strapped up I was able to get home. Sketchy ride I tell ya.
Broken inner axle shaft
Broken outer stub shaft
Broken upper and lower ball joints
Broken Shock mount pin
Wrecked a good pair of socks
Here's some video footage from the day.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWJVeRUAl1c&feature=share
Well along with the broken parts I found that the upper "C" was bent a 1/2" so my lower ball joint wouldn't seat without pressing the upper joint out. My first option was my 2.5 ton floor jack and some heat, I don't have acetylene so I gave it a go with some MAP gas. The gas wasn't sufficient and I couldn't get it to budge before the jack went to relief.
On to my second option, Borrowed a 12ton bottle jack from work and made short work of it.
New ball joints pressed, new axle shafts tomorrow and finish assembling.
Them little U-joints can sure make a mess.
Fatty and myself and 1 other hit the bush today to cut some new trail.
Looks like a good time! Love a fresh trail.
what happened to the jeep haha? ( hood up) , looked like a good time!
He had a flat tire, hood was up to access the compressor.
That looks awesome! Anybody want to go later this week? Thursday or Friday maybe?
Survived Jeepapalooza 2016.
Cool Shots! Looks like some really fun wheeling terrain, is this in the comox valley?
Yup Comox Valley and some shots are from Campbell river at a place called "Rock garden"
I got word this morning of a stolen vehicle left trashed on one of our local trails, Loki and I went out and dragged it to the road where we had the wrecker pick it up.
Some video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vw8pV2CAPjU
I got home and had a beer and decided to start a new project.
Good job!!!!
that kind of looked fun for the person steering the cavalier haha.
Got a little more done on the slider project.
Sliders complete.
Went and ran the lower section of Hammerfest this weekend.
Nice! what general area is that?
Errington, just a half hour North of me.
If you want specifics Shane send me a PM, Orrrrrrrr....get your ass up this way and I'll take you there myself.
Another great day on the mountain.
Was out fer a rip lastnight.
Awesome pictures. Looks like a fun time!! Cant wait to explore the island now that I'm here.
New project almost complete. Next, rear bumper and tire carrier....or maybe I'll roll the 44 under it.
Had 2 weeks of holidays, me and the family took off camping for a week and then I spent the following week doing shit to the XJ.
Built and installed my own shackle relocation brackets.
Installed extended Russel brake lines front/rear.
Installed a larger brake booster and proportioning valve with new lines.
Finally installed the Adjustable trac bar
I also got the Dana35 removed.
The Dana44 finished and installed including new brakes, axle bearings and seals, new brake lines and hose, new pinion seal and the carrier welded and capped, and new E-brake cables.
I also had to install some 1.5" coil spacers to make up the difference from the new shackle brackets.
And then of course you gotta go shake it down.
Went and Wheeled Duncan area Saturday.
Hill60
Broken gear
Cows pass
Some more trails taken off the "To do" list
Ffs would a been a good wheel. Haven't been out all year. And working on this stocker to collect firewood with. No time or money to wheel these days... it bites
Going out Sunday morning 9:30a.m. meet time in the Nanaimo area. Winch, locker(s), lift and tires required, likelihood of carnage....high. Be gone most of the day so pack a lunch. P.M. for location.
Greasy day today
Finally got the mounts cut, fit and welded on. I ended up using the pieces for the wrap around for my mounts as I wasn't happy bolting the new bumper onto the old mounting holes. I'll get the 2x6 this week and hopefully finish it Saturday. For tonight it's been primed and mounted for wheeling tomorrow.
Great work as always
Thanks Jas, I'll be sure to post a picture of the finished product.
Well, still haven't got the rear bumper finished.
First trip in the snow this year and I ended up losing control of my jeep leaving a trail and smashed head on into another jeep parked just off to the side of the road.
The Jeep I hit didn't survive, but thanks to my bumper, mine did.
I've been wanting to change my front bumper for awhile now as mine was pretty beefy, although that;s not a bad thing, I wanted a different / better profile.
Wire, cutting disks and materials I'm into this for under $200.00
I've since welded in the gussets and painted / mounted it.
I'm not sure if I'm going to do a bull bar or a small stinger yet.
Finally got the rear bumper wraps done, just a little cleanup, primer and paint.
Went out and busted in some new lines today, then stopped at the pit and had a little fun.
New parts showed up mid week, installed this afternoon. I went with the JCR over the knuckle kit and this thing is beefy as fuck.
I've got a hole in my passenger side floor that a 4" round punched through last time I was out that's going to get patched.
I've got some new rock lights and switches to mount and I also want to cut some holes in the new front bumper for some flush mount off road lights.
Found a bad unit bearing while doing the alignment this morning, yanked that out, the alignment will have to wait.
Cut some rotten floor out, will get a new piece patched in hopefully this week sometime.
Figured I got the new steering linkages in, I might as well fab up the steering box brace that I've been wanting to do for months now. Got that finished and installed.
Also got the rock lights wired in and replaced the existing switches with something new in a new location, no pics of the switches or placement.
.
Right on! I really need to get back into my projects.
Not sure if it's just me but video won't play.
Would love to come out and wheel with you guys. Doubt I'd keep up on my 31s
I go out a lot Jas and a lot of the time it's not real difficult terrain. You're welcome to join.
looks like you know how to have fun, id be down for a run with you guys some time easy or hard. Infact i think i may have wheeled with you before through bcjc up 5alarm funk in shawni ? Thought you had a jk that you werent afraid of scratching though hehe. Or maybe you just had the same name in your avatar ? Anyway, im not a douce and always lookin for good people to explore with or beat the piss out my heep with so shoot me a message some time.
Cheers
Hey RockWrangler, I'm not sure I've ever wheeled with you, we've made plans to wheel together through BCJC before but something came up both times where one of us was unable to make it.
I've been out with JKBullet and Badgrampa numerous time, I know you slum around with them two hippies.
I'm out every Sunday anywhere from Duncan to Errington, spend a lot of time in the Chemainus area and Nanaimo of course because that's home.
I've yet to run 5 alarm but would love a tour of the area. The only trails I've done in the Shawny area is like, "Fucked my mirror" "Cows pass" "broken gear" "Hill 60" "Goat trail" all kind of easy-ish trails.
If you want to travel up to this area I would be happy to take you out and keep you busy for the day, Nanaimo, Chemainus, or if you want to come up to Errington when the snow melts "Hammerfest" is a lot of fun.
Hey Larry what do you use for your rock lights?
These little gems.
So May long weekend is usually reserved for Jeepapalooza, but this year myself and a couple others boycotted because of the drama surrounding it last year and decided to do our own Camp-N-Crawl.
I'm thinking this may be a new May long tradition.
Well there some serious wheeling nice pics
Thanks Brent, it was a bitchin weekend.
Well I've had some time off work, the family and I went camping last week and this weekend decided to finish up a project I started awhile back.
I started with a sheet of 10g and used my 4" grinder to shape them.
They got primer on them tonight, paint tomorrow.
That s might fine work to be doing with a hand grinder looks great have to post installed pics
It will look a lot cleaner once the Jeep is painted.
I want to bring the armor up over the panel behind the rear window, as you can see I'm already missing one.
I've got slider extensions to cut and weld on, and then paint.
New paint scheme.
Slider extensions done.
Another successful Camp-N-Crawl, this time we spent the weekend in Campbell River/Courtney/Comox Valley
Day 1
Day 2
Carnage Report:
My Rig - Smashed front fender, Failed unit bearing, tore the driveshaft boot off, dented rear shock.
YJ - Broken Leaf spring
Explorer - Smashed tail light, damaged trackbar, broken air line to locker
Where in the valley was this? (feel free to pm it to me) (referring to post #32)
I live up here and haven't found anything that looks nearly that fun!
Don't worry I will keep it on the d low just looking for some spots for my brother and I.
Most of those pics were taken in Campbell River at a place called "Rock Garden" it's a pretty well known spot but I couldn't tell you how to get to it as I've only been there a handful of times.
If you mention "Rock Gardens" to any local they will be able to tell you how to get to it...I do remember it wasn't far off the beaten path.
Some of the other pictures are from Courtney area, trails called "Lumpy's" and "Jerry's" again pretty well known trails in the area and locals will be able to point you in the right direction if you ask.
If you get a chance to attend Jeepapalooza it's a great event and you will be guided to a lot of the local trails, it's not Jeep specific and all vehicles are welcome, it's a great weekend of fun and I highly recommend it.
This year is $60 entry, that includes a vehicle and as many passengers as you want, entry fee also includes camping, insurance, draws, auctions, BBQ and much more.
Sorry I couldn't be more help but I'm not local to that area I've just been up there a few times.
Sweet! thanks for the info, I will for sure sign up for Jeepapalooza!
Well I haven't posted in this thread in awhile, but not for the lack of going out.
Here are a few pics from my last couple outings.
Last outing I blew the center pin out of my front locker, ended up damaging locker housing (No big deal) and the pinion gear.(Bigger deal)
I currently have a Dana30 carrier with a Spartan locker for sale $100.00
The locker will come with a new center pin installed and as you can see the housing as had a chunk taken out but still functions as it should.
Instead of trying to mesh old gears or even dropping the money on new gears for my throw away axle, I went and picked up a new/old one for $20. It didn't have the short side axle shaft or unit bearing and no steering...that's alright though because I didn't need it anyways....score.
Spent some time yesterday cleaning it up and burning on a truss and track bar bracket, today I will reinforce the lower control arm brackets, install new inner axle seals and I'll be ready for the new locker.
Damn man it looks like you guys have fun out there
Got out for a full day of Dirt church on Sunday.
Some pics from our May long weekend in Powell River.
Double post.
Daaaaaamn PowTown looks awesome
We had an absolute blast in PR, the guys and gals over there really know how to put on a show. We'll be going back for sure.
