Anyone ever been up around Flora lake area. My 4 year old loves camping and we are getting tired of the BC Parks system. Looking for a quiet camp near or off the grid around Nitinat area. The original plan was to to loop from Sooke to Nitinat and back down through Carmanah into Port Renfrew and spend a few nights lake side here and there during the week. Any ideas? If you dont want to post locations you can just send me a PM, I wont put them up.

There is, however lots of camp spots around that area, there are trails off the mainlines to most of the rivers and lakes in the area.
I stopped there last week. The one camp site at the end of the road was a mess of shot gun shells, various casings and shot out bottles. Too bad, could be a nice spot if access to the lake was cleared up a bit. I ended up staying at the boat launch at Francis lake. The camp site at the north end was over run with people. Introduced the 4yr old to fishing. Had a great time. Tried making it across Caycuse main to mclure but the trail conditions turned me around. Seems accessible but dudnt want to take chances with the kid in tow and no major recovery gear. I'll post the gpx when I get to a computer eventually.
It was an awesome spot before the creek took back the road, there's a B24 Liberator crash site just north of it too.
Francis lake is nice but popular with Port Alberni folks in the summer. Glad you had a good time though!
Didn't know about that. I though the only crash site from that era was mt bolduc? I'll have to go find that next time I'm up there.
