Hey all,
I just acquired a 1997 Toyota 4runner for a mix of DD'ing and weekend wheeling/fishing/hunting. Was looking for an online community and found this site!
I'm in Victoria and would be down to hit some easy trails with some of you.
My runner currently has stock suspension but has 265/70/16 BFGoodrich KO's and I also have the e-locker. Should be able to manage some minor trails.
Would a lift be needed for our island trails? I have rusty suspension so I need to be replacing it anyways. Not sure if I should do stock or maybe a 1"-2" lift. Or go with a larger, more robust toytec (or similar) lift. Would lie to keep costs at a minimum though.
Don't have much for pictures yet, just my profile picture. The paint was heavily oxidized so I gave it a good cut polish and wax on the weekend and really helped the paint come back to life.
Looking forward to getting out with you all!
Hey welcome to the forum.
I had a 97 pathfinder which was somewhat similar is size and off-road capability.
I left mine at stock height with street tires. I was suprised with it. Managed to get it through some tough trails. Although it was pretty hard on it.
I would suggest getting a small lift since you're thinking of replacing some suspension components anyway. You'll get tired of easy trails fast and will want to upgrade the truck anyway.
Lots to explore. Be it a stock 4x4 or modified.
With a bit more lift you'll be able to reach more places where most people can't get to. You'll have your own private fishing spots etc...
Thanks for the reply!
I managed to fix the squeak coming from what I thought was the front suspension. Turned out to be a loose bolt on the bumper. My stock shocks look good still so I may just put new springs in for now to keep costs down.
Any advice for reaching out to tag along with some groups to hit up some trails?
I'm going out this weekend. You can tag along. We can do a mild run. See how you like it.
You might want to take the running boards off. You'll destroy them in no time. It really limits your clearance.
That would be great, I'd love to come.
Funny enough the 4runner came with only one running board anyways. Been too lazy to pull the other one off but will do it before the weekend. Shoot me a PM to arrange the weekend.
hey welcome to the forum! great community around here for sure, just be careful around jas things can get weird 0.o haha jk ;) nice find with the runner, definitely will be able to do a good amount of stuff with it! E-locker will help alot thats for sure. post some more pics if you can, enjoy :)
I'll do a photoshoot later. Maybe even start a build thread eventually if (more like when) I starting upgrading her up.
Nice meeting you today Dustin.
Even tho my shit broke it was still a good day.
