Wondering how many different routes are out there to Bamfield from Victoria. Just decided to head out this weekend for the first time and am sure someone will know better routes than I do. There used to be a sign for Bamfield on the road that goes under the Malahat very near Bamberton. Never followed it very far, but would like to and don't see it on the map. Anyone know about this? Thanks
Try using google earth. It helps a lot.
Thanks, will do. A friend just offered me his forestry map of the area and I do have a backroads map book too. Just wondering if there are any insider tips on routes that may not be so obvious on the maps.
I've been there once few years ago. I remember we went lake cowichan way and came back port Alberni way.
This was 5-10 years ago. I can't recall which roads to take now etc.
Im sure someone will answer your question.
Interesting little place tho.
you can go cowichan into nitinat and then will hit a big tee 20-30 mins after nitinat and bamfiled is on your left or alberni on on the right. have not taken the bamfiled road in some time just took the road to albirni a few years ago when we ran out of beer well fishing/camping nitinat area but its a really nice road on the alberni side. nitinat logging roads can be shitty in that area and bring extra gas no where to get it from cowichan to alberni. if you need anything else let me know
Thanks Dave.
hey nice truck! yea we were planning on going to bamfield a few weeks ago but ended up not because of some circumstances, but definitely if you head through youbou past cowichan, eventually you will get the option of alberni or bamfield. ive been all the way to nitinat reserve, you can get gas there. Post about it if you make your way, would be interesting to see how it goes :) and yea backroads mapbook and a GPS setup is the way to go!
i know some people have been able to get gas but i would pack my own i go up fishing and camping there a few times a year and have not seen them open for gas in a few years and when they are they charge and arm and leg i'm told. better to look after your self then hope others can. shitty time of year to be out of gas hoping some one drives by that day and is willing to help you. i got a flat up there at 5 in the morning and had about 10 loggers and fishermen almost drive over my leggs well changing it well my dad stood there with a flashlight on them. lucky i had everything i needed and was ok and know i have a shit load of lights on my truck so if that happened again it will be like daylight.
haha wow yea i hear you bringing your own gas is always a better, option, and man that sounds like a terrible tire change, glad it worked out! always better to come prepared than not, for sure!
ya only flat i have got and its at 5am with fishermen and loggers flying by and after being the first up i lost my fishing hole that day:( but kept my legs so guess thats better then my fishing hole lol
haha yea man absolutely, I havent gotten a flat yet thank God! and yep rather keep legs than fishing pole, if you HAVE to choose...although....fish is tasty. :P
most of my fishing spots are not wheelchair accessible so kinda need my legs
yea true, I guess theres always thriftys?
