Hey ya'll. New to VI off road. Recently purchased 1991 pajero. I was out exploring around kapoor/butler main line. Tried to get to Leechtown via Boneyard main but came across the Big ol' Red gate. Does anyone know who installed the gate? Are there any alternative routes in ?
CRD watershed gate I believe. I'm sure there's a way but I just hike in personally
Timber West has been locking their gate near Camp Bernard (Scout camp) for a few years now, when they upped the logging activity in there. They also got tired of all the dumping going on, dump trucks full of drywall, etc. CRD also has gates further in to keep us out of the watershed containment area. It has become hard to just drive in and camp by a lake overnight anymore. As Ken said, hiking into Leechtown I believe is the only way now. The Goose is probably the easiest way to get there. I have enjoyed camping at the Sooke Potholes Campground and walking to Leechtown via the Goose which is right along side the campground.
There's an overgrown track from Thelmita Place to the Private Road leading to Boneyard Main. Ive only seen it from the air (google) but I wonder....I wonder. Maybe if you went at night with your lights off, no one would notice. Then again, maybe it's gated at the Private Road. Thelmita is connected to Sarah Place which is off Otter Point Road.
I once drove from Shawnigan Lake to Sooke via Sooke Lake Reservoir and Leachtown in my Subaru 1800 GL wagon. The road down through the woods to LEachtown was a bedrock two track. Just as the road ran out, we found some teenagers camped at the river. They came across the river in their Chevy van and said we probably shouldn't risk it in our subby. But I hate going out the way I came in, so I went across the river and down the logging road on the other side of the river and came out, I know not where. It was probably Boneyard Main and I probably came out on Otter Point Road, but that was in 1992, before the gates went up, and before a plane landed in Sooke Reservoir and CRD closed it to adventurers for all time.
haha lights of and sneaky! yea somehow I doubt that would be passable, from what ive heard its all completely gated everywhere...sounds like it was a better time in 1992! too bad I was 1 year old ;) haha
In a quiet neighbourhood like that you'd likely need the cone of silence or a cloaking device to keep from alerting the residents of your presence.
Farmer Drive, off Otter Point Rd.

Oh man, that guy in the video really needed to tell his buddy to shut up.
Pretty sure you can get access from westhills in Langford near the power lines, but don't quote me on that. much easier on a dirt bike.
