Hey guys :) So I talked to shane and he would be available to show us ( whoever wants to come) around the cowichan area, couple cool spots and nice views ( weather permitting for views), it would be a day run next saturday. I know matt (bayrak) has been up there with him already and said it was pretty cool! So yea would be sweet to have some more peeps come along :)

some pictures from when they went!
anyone lol?
It might be a beauty day Eh. Any idea what spots?
I have an idea , but it would be mostly Shane showing us some spots he knows , which seeing from the pics, it looks awesome!
Yea I'm open to going anywhere really - there are a bunch of standard spots that a lot of people go in the Duncan/Cowichan area - back side of mt sicker, in and around the forestry pools, hillcrest powerlines, a few different river spots, and some good altitude (though this is often above the cowichan lake cloud layer so we may or may not get any views).
Difficulty will be stock 4x4 capable I'm thinking, but depending on who shows up I'm happy to show you some tough trails as well. Everyone welcome.
Would be cool to get some good views and spot out some good camp spots near the river / on higher altitudes :) is there a mine around there? Also could we check out the old airstrip?
Too bad it wasn't Sunday. I'm in for the next one.
Wouldn't mind seeing some tuff trails.
It will suck driving on logging roads now that the ground is all froze up. Makes for one rough ride.
Well for me I won't be able to go too hardcore, you know my truck jad
Jas*
Are you guys still heading out tomarrow? What time? Thinking about maybe coming down from Nanaimo
yea were still heading out, but on saturday not friday, 10am at the start of hillcrest road
I'll plan to join you. Looking forward to it
awesome! see you there
so for those coming tommorow, 10am, start of hillcrest road right off the highway! supposed to be a super nice day! see you all there :)
I'm out.
Ah too bad :/
The gang is still out there heading down to the goat trail that goes down to the canyon beyond the power lines on the chemainus river but I pulled out early after the run up to the old mine site on Mt. Sicker. Here's a few pics of the morning - I'm sure the rest of the pics will get posted after they are back ... with a few more dents and scratches.
Arrgh ... dang iPhone... will have to put pics on the laptop first so they're not all sideways
Trev likes his height ... usually
Oh for Pete's sake. These pics just ain't werkin
I'll try this again...
Ya, I'm having a hard time posting these from my phone
Hey - that worked! Pics seem fuzzy until u click on one then it clears up.
awesome pics dude! thanks for posting, ill put mine soon! was a great day :)
A few more - good times today!
Nice. Looks like a good view over the lake. Any new dents? Lol
some pics from today :)
Couple more pics. Thanks to all.
thanks roland!
Roland popped a CV axle and then I blew my steering rack on my way home (on pavement, luckily). All in all, minor damage :) I love the breakages where you make it home before midnight! hah
Oh wow I didn't know you blew a steering rack! You were still able to drive home safe?
Yea when I pulled off the highway on the way back to hillcrest that's what I was hearing. That last bomb down the powerline rd after killed it cause I barely made it home. By the time I hit my street my front wheels were both wobbling like crazy and pointing in different directions. I'm not sure if the rack itself is broken or if I just broke the mounts off the frame - either way it's hangin' loose down there! Oh well, gives me an excuse to do new rack bushings when I fix it - they were getting pretty bad.
Haha wow man yea that sounds brutal, good thing you guys got home safe! Thankful all I got was that side step dent, man without those steps I would slid further and possibly smashed something important, thankful I kept them on! ( Even though I don't like em)
looks good a bunch of us went and did granite dunes and canopener that wekend!
Ive been thinking of trying to connect up silver lake with the laramie mine side through the old trail as shown on the blue line starting from the laramie mine side.
Did you ever find that old airstrip?
If you're talking about the one near copper canon, it's been blocked off. You could walk to it but not drive.
I spent a good couple hours trying to find access to it last summer. If there still is a trail I couldn't find it.
yea if you mean the old strip near cowichan lake, last i heard its so overgrown its like regular forest now. Ive never seen it though
You can still get to the old airstrip but it's not stock friendly at all
Thanks....I appreciate the info.
