Hey guys im working on pushing a trail through from widow creek out by youbou over to sherk lake as another way to acess the far end of Chemanious main(macmillian blodell) road. sherk lake is up by the old steam donkey parked at the split for rhinehart lake or jump lake. Thought i would see if anyone was interested in getting out and making up some conector loops. I have a built jeep very capable but this particular route isnt that hard its basically a old quad trail i cut through on a old road years ago and now id like to get the jeep through, and seeing i live in lake cowichan its closer for me to get in that way.
Hey Erik, the route you speak of actually already exists. I've been up to Sherk a few times from Youbou this summer in my 4runner - there are a couple of technical areas but certainly do-able for a built jeep. Let me know when you're wanting to get up there and I may be down for another go.
Welcome to the site!
Yes I know the way I know the spots I've been bushing it out a bit I've got up to where the old gate was where there is some rocks but I didn't go pass that in my Jeep
Is it bushy the rest of the way from the old gate where the rocks are. I don't worry too much in my jeep but a few other people I will with do I might head up to chemanous main today and come in from the other side.
It's quite dense bush for parts of the trail, so expect some pinstriping. I'm not sure exactly where the old gate is, but the tight stuff starts where the fsr ends. Right at the dead end there is a little quad trail that goes through the trees, but then it opens up in 100 yards or so and gets much easier. There is one washout on the road that is a bit tricky as well.
The old gave is way past the creek washout where the big rock is in the middle there is kind of an S turn where you've got to squeeze between a couple of big rocks and there is an old gate there on your right and just after the rocks you squeeze through there is a tank trap dugout that's pretty makeable though
