well I cant believe that summer is coming to a close. Seams like i was only kykaking once this year and again havent made it out for a good wheel. Well Im ready! And so is the heep!,
Looking to do some moderate- core wheeling exploring places I havent been and perhaps camping a night... thinking sherk lake to reighnheart and back again?
Gimme some feed back dont wana do this on my own, probably the 22 or the 29 being that I work sunday night I would like to leave friday durring the day sometime...
I'm down for sure! I feel like I haven't been wheeling at all this summer. I got a new bumper for my truck too - just need to find someone to weld the frame end-caps on (you wouldn't happen to have a welder, would you)? Should have it ready to go this week for sure though. We should do sherk or just explore up copper canyon somewhere. the 22nd works for me.
Anyone else want to join?
Shane! I do! I will be welding some shit tomorrow! Pm me a text number! Or I will pm you with my home phone number when im home?i dont have many rods left but i can definitly make it sit there for now till we burn it right in completely!
Alright! Well Im stoked!
Will get my shit together this week and have it all ready
no other takers? all my buddies wheelers are DOA or their working friday night. what about glyn? we will hopefully be doing some actual exploring. this time out
Really wish I could, gotta work Friday night.
so were postponing this run till Saturday august 30th, on account of would be nice to prepare more and have more people join in!
we're tossing around copper canyon sherk to reignheart anyone know if these roads join up with naniamo lakes in the back end? would be nice to do a round trip and come back, but if not who knows
I'm thinking the wife and I are gonna camp out, Saturday to Sunday, were not too sure where yet but we will see coming prepared for anything, including fishing rod and tackle.
I'm not certain of the route we will take? through the check point at chemanus or more likely head off the lake Cowichan highway and go past the canyons to the river crossing is what Im inclined to do
If I didn't have to work I'd be all over this.
We will be heading out the 29 saturday morning, meet around 9:00- 10:00 @ tansor gas station, cb channel 27
Head to the trail head in forestry pools, take trail past porters canyon access to dug outs cross chemanus river over bridge, head up copper canyon main for a ways, keep on main line till reignheart access trail head. We will access reignheart up the tough way, and explore around up there maby stop for lunch and do some fishing. from there head down the main line back towards sherk lake and our final destination. so far it will be shane and myself as well as his friend, plus a couple of guys from my work place will each be bringing theirs out. So thats five rigs and a whole lotta fun to be had! will finally get to try out some of my mods, and maybe put the winch to work.!
Sounds awesome - I got my bumper on last night (thanks again for the weld job BeRad!!), but now I'm rubbing hard on my front fenders from the height drop. I'm going to try to get some taller front springs installed this weekend, but if I can't find some that quick then I guess I'll just have another sledgehammer pounding session to clear up some room for the mudders. Either way, I'm going to be ready for the 29th for sure. This will be a fun route.
Shit you werent kidding about that thing wheighing in at a heafty sum. If you need a hand let me know Im free most days.
Hey, love to be there, but can't make it. Last weekend before I get hitched, and TONS to do! Congrats on the wee one, I never was fortunate to go down that road. See you on the trails soon.
congrats on the wedding glyn! thank you wee one is coming too soon I'm freaked but will deal. see you out on the trail soon!
I would really love to join, just a couple concerns.
I don't know the route you've got mapped out, and my truck is just a stock mall crawler ('97 Ford Expedition) with all season tires. I also have to work Saturday evening, so I'd have to be back in Nanaimo around 4pm.
If I can tag along for part of the trek before turning back home I will definitely be there, but if I'll just slow everyone down and screw up everyone's day by getting stuck and having to find easier paths, I'll just sit this one out and wait for another run.
Well, its not stock friendly, deffinitly mostly cross ditches deeper than my truck is tall and shorter than your truck is long on the way in. Sorry buds its mostly suzukey trails out there since most land is owned and gated by the powers that be....
Yea Garry you may be out of luck on this one - I doubt you'd make it in the expedition, though I was talking to eviled who said he made it in his f350 fullsize (or at least, most of the way). BeRadical is right though, it's got a ton of deep ditches which would be a pita in a longer truck with no suspension lift.
If you're interested in checking out the duncan/cowichan area though send me a pm and let's plan something. I could even go for a short day trip tomorrow or some time this week if you're around, and we can put your rig to the test :)
No worries. Based on the pics here in the forum I've seen of some of your rigs I'm really not surprised it's a rough trail.
Shane I do appreciate and will definitely take you up on your offer. I will have some more time off in the coming weeks, I'll send you a message and hope we can figure something out.
Have fun next weekend and please post some pics.
Hey guys I have been meaning to get out with this group and I would love to come out Saturday. I live in Nanaimo and don't know here this meet up spot is. Number is 250 240 4457, thanks for your time.
Hey, Rory, are you familiar with duncan at all?
If you are heading south to duncan, take a right onto the lake cowichan highway before the new walmart. Head up till you come to a left hand turn on a curve in the road, will have a flashing red light above it! tansor rd. take that for about a minute, and you cant miss the old service station on the right, meeting there between 9:00 and 10: am
I will GPS Tansor rd, and attempt to find this place on saturday.

oh boy, campfire ban is lifted for the weekend too! cooking on cast iron fry pans all night! I'm so stoked, got just about the whole house packed up to come out haha lol
bring warm sleeping gear its getting cool at night.
see you on the trails
Ps also wondering off the top whos all gonna be camping out? were thinking chilli or perogies for dinner over the camp fire.
And the obvious bacon hasbrown fest in the morning
My gf can't make it out this weekend and I'm pretty much useless when it comes to food, hah - I'll probably just do hotdogs or something ..and yea, bacon goes without saying :)
I will be making the trip down from Nanaimo... Just a daytrip for me though...
Havent been out that way so looking forward to some new trails
will be awesome to see everybody out and about, thanks to all for joining us. should make for a good trip.
Turns out I'm not scheduled to work tomorrow, Welshy check your inbox mate. If you want to travel down together let me know.
Shane if you have any stickers left this would be a good time for me to grab 1 or 2 of them since I'm rarely in the area.
Right on - I'll bring a bunch of stickers for anyone who wants them
We will be at the meetup spot about 10am...
Cya all there
I'll be travelling down with Gwyn, we will be leaving Nanaimo just shortly after 9:00a.m. I know you guys want to be on the trails ASAP but we may be just a couple minutes past 10:00 so please wait. Our rigs don't like highways speeds.
See you all shortly.
thankyou to all who came out, I wouldnt have made it back with out a tug, sorry my heep became the pos it did, wil have to re plan this trip and acctually accomplish it.. another weekend scrapped by a heep.
Shit happens Brad, and at some point or another it happens to EVERYONE!!
Anyways we ended up having a pretty decent day, after you left we lost Jeff for a couple of hours, (No idea how and quite frankly I'm certain he was abducted by aliens) after finding him me and Welshy split ways with Shane and Jeff. We tried to get down the backside of Sicker but someone went and put a new gate up which was not passable so we had to turn around and go all the way back to where we started.
Jeff was also broken but still mobile when we found him and last we heard they were going to find their destination for the night. We followed their foot prints for a while but never did find them or where they set up camp.
Anyways thanks Shane, Jeff, Brad, Gwyn for an awesome day, I'm really liking wheelin on Sicker....it's just a long ways to go in a rig that doesn't like highway speeds.
Next time...you guys come to Nanaimo and We'll show you guys some fun.
Haha, aliens for sure. So random.
The day turned out pretty good, considering the multiple rig breakdowns. We ended up finding a good spot with a decent view for the night.
Here are some random shots from the day. Good wheelin with you guys, we'll have to head up your way soon for sure!
