hey everyone,
i've been lurking on here for a while, but decided it was time to make an account and be a little more friendly. i've been getting the a bad case of the offroad bug and wan't to do some more exploring. i'm a little limited currently, as my daily driver is a long box sierra that is 2wd :( . however, i am a fairly determined dude and don't mind getting her dirty and having some fun. i managed to make it all the way out to the bear creek reservoir last week and had a blast. i don't think i'd be able to do too much more than that, as my truck is pretty wide and a little low in the front. is there anything fun in the duncan area that i would be able to navigate? i have my eyes on hillcrest road, is this doable in my truck or am i being crazy? i don't have anyone to go with so it couldn't be something that i would be liable to get stuck and have no way out lol.
Hey Nick, welcome to the site!
There are a number of other members also driving stockers/2wd, and I think it's about time we have a stock run. Hillcrest would definitely be a good place to start. There are a few trails up there that would be a doable for a low/2wd truck, though probably only enough to fill an hour or two. Beyond that, we could do some exploring out past Cowichan lake - there are a few logging roads up there that will get you some altitude and good views without any extreme 4x4ing.
I'm free to head up a trip any time. Bomb up here today for a quick run and/or let's plan something bigger the first weekend in Sept.
Any other stockers in our midst want to join?
thanks for the reply shane. i can't head out that way today because of prior obligations, but would love to head out with a group sometime soon. even if that means i leave my truck in a parking lot and hitch a ride/chip in some gas money. hopefully sometime this fall i will pick up a toy that i can bring on the trails. i'm an apprentice mechanic out here in vic and my daily is pretty boring lol.
could i do all of hillcrest with my truck or would i be limited to the lower sections? i went out to burnt bridge a couple weeks ago and the renfrew road was gated, and everything else was either way to crazy for me or closed off.
You're always welcome to hitch a ride in my truck if we can get a few more people, or come along on one of the more difficult runs. I assume by your username that you're into photography, in which case my fee will be some glorious poser shots of my truck :) hah
You will be somewhat limited at hillcrest, though you could get high enough to have some fun. There's only one route in that is stock friendly, but it gets right up to the clay pits and hill climbs which are pretty cool.
Post or pm when you're thinking of coming up and we'll set something up.
awe hech I can troll along with some stockers for a run hell i can do some obstacles and show off and shit
Just let me know the day! I'm ready to roll out with 24 hours notice between 100 and 600 pm
I'd love to go on a stock friendly run. Unfortunately I do work weekends, but usually it's evening shifts so I'm still around during the day.
Is anybody free this Wednesday or Thursday?
I could do an afternoon run on either day - any time past 2ish.
I have work from 6:30 on those days (later than my usual 4:45 start).
If we could get started real close to 2ish though that would still give us a few hours for a short run. And of course if anybody else wanted to join you could all stay out as late as you want.
Cool - let's do a short one tomorrow then. We could meet where hillcrest meets the highway at 2:15pm?
I wont be able to, have engagements in naniamo for 230 Sorry guys
Sounds good to me, I'll be there tomorrow.
Hopefully we can arrange something in the coming weeks when more people are available too.
saw a post on the facebook page about some guys heading out today around 10? is this going to be a crazy run or something i could tag along?!
I don't actually run the facebook page, so I'm not 100% sure. We're only loosely affiliated. I talked to the owner of the page a year back or so and we swapped info, but other than that they kind of do their own thing. We should really plan a joint meetup at some point.
I've run a couple times with some great people at West Coast Jeeps as well as some local BCJC members. A lot more locals in the WCJ club that drive stockers or close to it than local BCJC members.
