Hello everyone,
Just starting with this whole exploring thing. My husband has completed some upgrades to his 2006 Nissan Frontier including BFG KM2 tires. We want to get onto Butler Main but have no clue where it's gated and where to get onto it.
Can anybody tell me where to go roughly? We figured by Bear Creek Reservoir somewhere. Am I way off?
Thanks :)
I wouldn't mind knowing this as well. I've been wanting to check out the big dam down from Diversion. If I had to guess I would say you start somewhere around Jordan river and follow the river up. Maybe someone here has been up there recently and can confirm.
Looking at Google Maps and OpenStreetMap.org, I would say there is a good chance by Bear Creek.
I was out there recently. You can get to Butler Main from the north (Shawnigan area to Jordan Main), can't access it from East Main (Diversion Dam) as the roads are either gated or filled-in, and probably can't get at it from Sooke as it's always gated there.
I really like going camping out there at the big landing by the dam, its a cool camping spot... any actual wheeling trails around the area? id love to go check that out some time
Butler main and Jordan main are both accessible from the Bear Creek Reservoir area..... was up there yesterday....
There's 2 semi difficult ways and 1 dead easy way. Google maps doesn't show the road but there's a left after diversion... follow it up the hill and at the top there's 2 trails stay left and you're on Jordan/Butler easy
Thanks Ken! We'll check it out :) The Backroads Mapbook is kinda confusing.
We were at the reservoir around Christmas, pretty easy road, saw a few cars even! Got in after Jordan River. Pretty cool exploring the dam!
hey can ya still access butlermain from the bearcreek resevoir area? i heard about a routr from renfrew past pixie lake or skutz? any imfomation would be much appreciated! i drive a sr5 on 33s
Ya just take a left just before the gate at the very top east main if you keap in low gear your 33 should pop you over the logs and you won't have any troubles with the s turn like my big chevy
thanks big red so is that the route that goes through the clearcut up to the semi big landing up on the butler main just before the gate that is welded shut that was a previous route years ago? cant wait to try it
Its challenging but not to bad if you have the turning Radios
