Awesome! I haven't been that way, have always stuck to the north side for some reason (and Skutz) but will have to check it out.

I've never been, but it's supposed to be a really nice spot. I'm sure if you do enough sleuthing you'll find it because of its popularity.

Secret lake? Can be a busy place though. Not much of a secret.

You can cruise roads behind Lake Cowichan too without going crazy.

Gah, Jeep is on the mend and repairing tomorrow (well, diagnosing) otherwise I'd be in!

Congrats on the purchase, sounds like you have good plans for it. Would be interested to hear how the diesel engine holds up over time too. I think by chance a few people are from the south island, but there's people always up for exploring.

From what I know, there is stuff in the Courtenay area especially around the backside of Comox Lake. I think there's an old scout camp there or that might be Great Central Lake - both places to explore nonethless, although I haven't been. There are some places up by Campbell River too, I think south of the big gas station. Then of course past Campbell River has lots of options. Fewer gates, less traffic. Definitely would be interested in exploring when weather gets better up there.

There is "the hump" entrance in Port Alberni (which I know isn't in the Comox Valley - but still more north) which will open you up to a ton of things. If you go a little further south you can get into the Whiskey Creek area and the Englishman River area through Nanoose.

I hope this helps in some way!
