I heard that happened. I was thinking about checking it out on my bike this weekend. It's a bummer, because that route made some really nice loops around the area. Does it look like a natural washout, or a trench they dug out to stop traffic?
My first word of advice is to stay out of the bush during fire season. The whole island is like kindling right now, and we don’t want to lose our wilderness.
I don’t know the Port Hardy area, but pick up a Backroads Mapbook at a gas station or Canadian Tire and go exploring! Also join the Vancouver Island Off-road Facebook group, it’s much more active than these forums, and you could probably tag along with some group runs once we get some rain.
Sounds like a fun trip! Not a lot of people wheeling in Kei trucks. I’ve been watching Mike Festiva on YouTube do a Kei off-road build. Very cool rigs.
Very cool, thanks Dale. I was exploring in the Horne Lake area a couple weekends ago too. Tons to see there. We ran into a few gates, but found a bypass and got some elevation (not sure what the mountain was called). I think I’m going to go back on my dual sport bike next time, and try to summit Mt Joan!

Sweet! I'll PM you.
Sweet rigs! Welcome to the group.
